What this week’s new home-video releases lack in actual quality, they more than make for in sheer quantity, including two collector’s editions that cram enough entertainment into a handy pack to keep you busy for actual days. First up, the entire Hobbit series is now available as part of The Hobbit: The Motion Picture Trilogy pack (so simply named for something that will take, by our estimation, at least three weeks to watch in its entirety). Need something a little more high octane? Why not rev up your nearest DVD or Blu-ray player (you can rev those things up, right?) and pop in a new six-disc Fast & Furious collection, which should catch you up on all the wheeling and dealing that has so far unfolded in the series before the seventh film opens next month. (Don’t forget to watch Tokyo Drift after Fast 6, in order to stay with appropriate timeline.) How convenient!
If you’re strapped for time this week—or, if for some reason, you don’t like either The Hobbit or the Fast & Furious franchises, only one of which I personally cannot stand—there are some one-off home-video offerings you might want to check out instead, including Disney’s new take on Into The Woods, Angelina Jolie’s almost unbelievable Unbroken, a slew of oldies but goodies, and enough hilariously-named horror films to ensure you feel more amusement than terror while watching them (including Revolution 666, which appears to be some kind of Tusk ripoff, refuting my belief that no one would ever want to remake Tusk in any way, shape, or form).
