While We’re Young and Kumiko, The Treasure Hunter lead an indie-tinged week of home-video releases

While We’re Young and Kumiko, The Treasure Hunter lead an indie-tinged week of home-video releases

Don’t let the slim look of this week’s new-on-home-video rolls fool you: There’s a ton of good stuff available for purchase (or rental? are we still doing that? I miss that) that’s well worth your hard-earned dollar bills. The big ones—While We’re Young and Kumiko, The Treasure Hunter—provide a microcosmic look at some recent festival favorites. (Personally speaking, While We’re Young is one of my favorite films of 2014, and one that really benefits from further watches.)

Dig a little deeper, though, and this week has a handful of other offerings that are pretty hard to turn down, including a special-anniversary edition of UHF and a long-touted “alternate ending” cut of Vanilla Sky. (The Blu-ray’s details are listed at Cameron Crowe’s own The Uncool website). It sounds nothing short of essential. Slightly less essential? Last Knights and The Gunman, which both feature star-studded casts and a whole lot of slack-jawed confusion. Also, my parents loved Danny Collins, so do with that information what you will.
