Here’s one galaxy that’s getting more stars. Variety reports that the upcoming Star Wars spinoff feature Star Wars: Rogue One is looking to add yet another talent to its already glittery cast. The outlet reports that Diego Luna is now in talks to join the feature, which has already cast Felicity Jones, Riz Ahmed, and Ben Mendelsohn.
It’s unknown exactly what role Luna could take in the feature, but Variety bills it as a lead role that will land him alongside Jones, the feature’s female lead. As had been long rumored, the film “revolves around the heist of the Death Star plans by a group of rebel fighters, with Jones starring as one of the rebel soldiers. Sources say Ahmed and Luna also play rebel fighters.” (Kind of the best crew ever, right?) The trio is all currently billed as leads.
Mendelsohn has already been marked as the “film’s primary villain.” (A rogue rogue? Or one of the Empire’s minions? Or both?) The film’s timeline takes places between Episodes III and IV, but it will be “closer chronologically to A New Hope.”
As Variety notes, the “cast is expected to be a large ensembler similar to The Dirty Dozen and Saving Private Ryan,” which basically means we just get to sit tight and watch still more awesome casting roll out over the next few weeks (am I excited for this one? you can’t even imagine).
Edwards joined the film nearly a year ago, with casting for Jones and Mendelsohn following in January and in March of this year, respectively. The film will be the first in a set of planned spinoff films (a second feature, still of unknown plot, is currently without a director after the recent departure of Josh Trank), and is set to hit theaters on December 16, 2016.
