The Super Bowl is apparently happening this Sunday. Who knew? It seems that between bouts of men running around madly and punching the air (this is my understanding of football, and all sports), many a film trailer will grace our screens, relieving us, for a few brief and beautiful moments, of the Super Bowl. According to Deadline, here’s what you can expect to glimpse:
Disney will air a 30-second spot for Tomorrowland, Brad Bird’s science-fiction adventure starring George Clooney and Britt Robertson, and premièring May 22. Deadline helpfully points out that this is a smart move, because Clooney appeals to both men and women, just like the Super Bowl. George Clooney, the Super Bowl of actors: boring, confusing, overblown, silly, and ultimately depressing? No, that can’t be right. Deadline also premièred this exclusive, 10-second teaser for the trailer. (Yes, this is the world we live in now.)
Universal is bringing out its big guns, just like Tom Brady? Is this an appropriate sports reference? It’s slotted at least one spot for Jurassic World, out June 12, and for Ted 2, out June 26. (We’ll have a longer post on the new trailer for the film later today.) It’s also got the Despicable Me spinoff Minions, slated to open sometime this summer, and Seventh Son, out Feb. 6.
Paramount will run an ad for The SpongeBob Movie: Sponge Out Of Water, and a new trailer for Terminator: Genisys—which is not spelled wrong, debuts July 1, and stars Emilie Clarke, Jason Clarke, J.K. Simmons, and Arnold Schwarzenegger—during the game’s second quarter. Here’s an early look at the trailer, which just dropped online:
20th Century Fox will debut a trailer for Kingsman: The Secret Service. And lastly, Lionsgate will also promote a new trailer for The Divergent Series: Insurgent during NBC’s pregame show. That particular trailer also debuted this morning on MTV:
Join us again Monday morning, when we’ll break down the trailers and take a minute-by-minute look at all of the football that happened around them.
