The wildly popular (and wildly profitable) Paranormal Activity film franchise is infamous for peppering its TV spots and trailers with night-vision-lit shots of audiences watching the films and then screaming their brains out, jumping out of their seats, and generally losing their minds at the terror unfolding before them. But what if you could do that at home, without the added fear of being used for a marketing campaign that basically hinges on the ability of a film to make people pee their pants in public? (I’ve so far reacted in this manner to exactly one PA film, the third one, and I remain deeply grateful that there were no cameras around to capture my highly embarrassing behavior.)
VRWERX, a division of Beast Media Group, wants to do just that, thanks to a new virtual-reality game that takes place within the Paranormal Activity universe. This is my nightmare.
There’s no word on what exactly the game will entail, but Russell Naftal, Beast MG Co-Managing Partner, touts the franchise as one that “represents a huge audience that loves visceral, unbridled terror, which we intend to intensify through the incredible immersion that only virtual reality enables.” Great. Moreover, Naftal shares, “our goal is for the Paranormal Activity VR video game to not only be the scariest game you’ve ever played, but the scariest experience you’ve ever had!” Super. Awesome. Can’t wait.
Other details on the project are also slim, but ComingSoon reports that the new game will be released next year, and will be available on “all major head-mounted displays including HTC Vive, Sony’s Project Morpheus, Oculus Rift; PC; mobile; and consoles, including Xbox One and PlayStation 4.” Yes, definitely put this stuff on your head. Sounds good.
The sixth Paranormal Activity film, Paranormal Activity: The Ghost Dimension (the what? oh, hell no) will be released on October 23, 2015.
