There’s a dinosaur serial murderer on the loose in the new Jurassic World TV spot

by Charles Bramesco
There’s a dinosaur serial murderer on the loose in the new Jurassic World TV spot

Audiences have already gotten an eyeful of the long-awaited, fast-approaching Jurassic World. (The bitter tundra conditions in many major American cities may suggest otherwise, but June’s only a couple of months away!) The initial trailer landed on the Internet like a huge whale-shark-dino-monster in a SeaWorld tank back in November, and developments have been relatively quiet since then.

Last night, AMC capitalized on the ratings spike brought on by the finale of The Walking Dead’s fifth season and debuted a new TV spot for Jurassic World during a commercial break. The first trailer didn’t provide much in the way of plot details, aside for the fact that the Bryce Dallas Howard-led team of scientists thought it could be good fun to genetically engineer a gigantic terrifying new species of dinosaur. It’s like they haven’t even seen Jurassic Park!

Wait, have they? Do the original Jurassic Park movies exist in this diegesis, or are the events of those films regarded as world history now? And if that was the case, how could they have gotten clearance to give this another shot after all the deaths last time? Either way, they should really know better than to wantonly cook up new dinosaurs. If movies have taught us anything, it’s that science only leads to horrible disasters and handy metaphors for humankind’s technological arrogance. If we had all agreed to halt science after the whole Frankenstein’s monster debacle, a lot of lives could’ve probably been spared.

At any rate, the new trailer coughs up a couple of fresh plot details. The genetically modified megadino has eaten her sibling and intends on wreaking havoc throughout the island by methodically picking off all the other dinosaurs. Dinosaur serial killer? Sign me up! The TV spot is below:

The trail of the tape
Title: Jurassic World
Director: Colin Trevorrow
Screenwriter: Colin Trevorrow, Derek Connolly
Cast: Chris Pratt, Bryce Dallas Howard, Vincent D’Onofrio, Ty Simpkins
Release date: June 12, 2015
The entire trailer in one line of dialogue: “Evacuate the island.”
The entire trailer in one screengrab:

The trailer is short, but sweet. The money shot here definitely has to be the innocent bystanders getting plucked from the ground by angry pterodactyls who then fly away with their prey. That looks scary beyond imagining, but also maybe a little fun. Who hasn’t dreamt of being flown around by a giant dinosaur? And then Jayne Mansfield is there, and she asks if you’re ready for your driver’s license exam. Everyone’s had that dream, right?
