In today’s most aca-awesome news (and, notably, on a day when we could all stand a little more aca-awesome in our lives), the very first trailer for Pitch Perfect 2 has finally dropped (much like a beat, or a record, or some other musical element we’re not entirely clear on but happy to act as if we understand in service to the beauty of the Pitch Perfect mythos). As is so often the case with sequels to wildly popular films about one-off competitions, Pitch Perfect 2 ratchets up the intensity to give us a still more important competition (that, honestly, we might not have ever heard of and may have been totally invented in service to this film) for us to follow.
The first Pitch Perfect chronicled acerbic Beca (Anna Kendrick) as she navigated her way around the wide, weird, wonderful world of college a cappella competitions, eventually leading her beloved Bellas to glory at the national collegiate competition (while also snagging a cute man while singing songs from the John Hughes filmography). What could possibly come next? The world championships of a cappella, duh!
The Bellas are back, baby, and now they even have a house and a cute new singer (Hailee Steinfeld, in her first Pitch Perfect turn) and a burning desire to send the Bellas into the a cappella record books before both Beca and Fat Amy (Rebel Wilson) graduate. What, I’m crying? You’re crying!

Pitch Perfect co-star and producer Elizabeth Banks adds a new feather to her cap with the feature, as Pitch Perfect 2 marks Banks’ directorial debut. If there’s anyone who can add the appropriate amount of love and wackiness to this, it’s Banks. Anyway, enjoy singing “Cups” for the rest of the day!
