Using the most advanced computer technology ever invented, and a proprietary algorithm devised by a secret government think tank, The Dissolve created The Speculometron to determine the mathematical probability of the Internet’s latest movie rumors.
Rumor: Bill Nighy, Morgan Freeman, and Ken Watanabe are the current top choices to play The Ancient One, Doctor Strange’s mentor, in the upcoming Marvel feature.

Evidence: “I’m hearing from multiple sources that Morgan Freeman, Bill Nighy and Ken Watanabe have been approached for the role of The Ancient One in Marvel’s Doctor Strange.”
The Speculometron’s calculations: By casting a wide net on this rumor—three names instead of just one!—it will ultimately prove a lot easier to stamp this one “true.” Just one name? That’s significantly tougher. Three is basically the spaghetti method of rumor-mongering. (Throwing stuff at the wall until it sticks, such a delicious way of doing things.)
Latino Review has consistently stayed on the Marvel beat (it’s kind of its bread and butter), and Doctor Strange casting in particular has consumed the outlet for months. Still, it has yet to snag any of the biggest casting rumors before anyone else—think the persistent chatter that Joaquin Phoenix was going to take the role, or the ultimate reveal that Benedict Cumberbatch had taken on the part—which means this could either be a big get or a possible letdown. It’s impossible to say!
It’s also impossible to avoid the obvious here: These are three very different actors, in terms of look, skill, and fame. If this list were rounded out by three more similar performers, The Speculometron would likely feel a bit different, as it would signal that the production knew what it was going for and was pursuing it. This just looks like ticking off cool names—and, yes, all these guys are extremely cool—and hoping something works out. On the upside, it would be pretty awesome to see any of these guys in a Marvel film.
Odds: 23 to 1. Nothing with Doctor Strange casting so far has been easy or straightforward, and while tossing three names into the mix ups the chances that one of them will prove to be true, the track record just is not there.
