After decades of rumors and conjecture and fans trying to wish the film into existence despite Ghostbusters II, it looks like a brand new Ghostbusters film is finally happening, and with a female-led cast. Paul Feig will direct the feature, which was announced back in August and billed as a reboot with an all-female cast.
Details on the new film are coming together slowly (as seems to be the way with this franchise), and another tidbit dripped out recently when it was revealed that Pitch Perfect and Bridesmaids star Rebel Wilson has met with director Feig about apparently appearing in the film.
In an interview on The Today Show, Wilson was asked if the filmmakers had offered her the proverbial “money truck” to appear in the film, to which she replied, “I would even do that without the money truck,” she replied. “I’d do that for free. I probably shouldn't say that live on TV.”
Wilson may not have made our own dream list of Ghostbusters gals (or, weirdly enough, even original star Bill Murray’s), but she’s undeniably funny, and she has an existing relationship with Feig to boot.
Everything still seems very preliminary about this new Ghostbusters, with the exception of Feig being set as director and The Heat scribe as Katie Dippold on board to pen the thing, and while we’re no Hollywood agents, if Wilson does end up appearing in the hotly anticipated/dreaded sequel, her rate will probably fall somewhere between “doing it for free” and “doing it for a money-truck’s worth of money.”
