We’re huge fans of Brazil here at The Dissolve, so of course we can’t wait to see Terry Gilliam’s The Zero Theorem, the director’s return to dystopian science-fiction. Christoph Waltz stars in the film as an anxious genius who’s been tasked with solving “the zero theorem,” which will finally determine with mathematical certitude whether or not life has any meaning. David Thewlis, Tilda Swinton, Ben Whishaw, and Matt Damon also appear, along with Gilliam’s trademark eccentric visuals. Here’s the official trailer.

The film, which premièred at last year’s Venice Film Festival, definitely looks Brazil-ish. It would be almost impossible to top that masterpiece, but at this point, after so many disappointing (or unfinished) Terry Gilliam movies in a row, we’d happily settle for something in the same satisfyingly satirical ballpark.
