Anna Margaret Hollyman was the star of one of my favorite recent microbudget indies, Small, Beautifully Moving Parts, a charming little film about a pregnant tech nerd trying to reconnect with her own mother. Hollyman gave a lovely lead performance, and while I’ve enjoyed her supporting turns in films like Gayby, I’ve been waiting to see her take center stage again in something. So I’m pleased to find her on the poster we’re exclusively premièring today for Zach Clark’s White Reindeer, which stars Hollyman as a woman dealing with the loss of her husband and the discovery that he had a relationship with another woman. Here’s the poster:
The official synopsis:
“Christmastime is looking swell for pretty, unassuming real-estate-agent Suzanne Barrington: she just sold a house to a nice swinger couple; her weatherman husband Jeff scored a sweet new job; and her favorite holiday is quickly approaching. After a sudden tragedy takes Jeff away, Suzanne is left lost and lonely. Even worse, a friend of his confesses a secret: there’s another woman. Her name’s Fantasia and she works at the ‘girl club.’ In their grief, the two women form an awkward but meaningful friendship. Pushing away the ghosts of Christmas present, Suzanne falls into Fantasia’s world of dance parties, shoplifting and substances. But maybe that’s not what Suzanne’s looking for either...”
And here was the film’s original trailer from South By Southwest (which has a very brief glimpse of nudity and is mildly NSFW):
You may have spotted Joe Swanberg in there; he co-stars along with Lovers Of Hate’s Chris Doubek. And Hollyman, of course, who I think is really someone to watch. White Reindeer opens December 6.
