It’s going to be a really long journey from Milan to Minsk.
According to the Norwegian film site Montages, Lars von Trier’s highly anticipated new movie Nymphomaniac, starring Charlotte Gainsbourg as a woman retelling the story of her sexytime-filled life to Stellan Skarsgård, is currently “five hours long.” “According to plan,” the site claims, “it will consist of two volumes, each two and a half hours long.” That’s a lot of nymphomania.
The article goes on to list a number of details about the production, some of which are already relatively common knowledge (like the fact that it’s structured as a series of flashbacks with eight distinct chapters), and some of which are new revelations (like the fact that the movie includes “extensive archive footage,” much of it culled from YouTube by von Trier). There are also possible plans in the works for a Nymphomaniac TV series, which I personally think would make a fabulous addition to ABC’s Thursday night lineup.
Also, Nymphomaniac is apparently “very funny,” and “closer to pure comedy than anything von Trier has made since The Idiots.” A super hilarious five hour hardcore sex flick! Lars, you old scamp. Don’t ever change.
