Back in May, our own Mike D’Angelo went to the Cannes Film Festival and raved about Jean-Pierre and Luc Dardenne’s new film Two Days, One Night, saying that he felt like it “may be the Dardennes’ best film to date.” Later, he picked it as his personal choice for the Palme d’Or. The film stars Marion Cotillard as Sandra, a woman battling clinical depression who has one weekend to convince her colleagues to forgo their annual bonuses so she can stay employed. The first full U.K. trailer for Two Days, One Night was just unveiled, and it looks as great as Mike said.

As Mike said in his Cannes piece, the Dardennes have a consistent track record of impressive films, releasing one every three years since 1996. At least from first glance, Two Days, One Night appears to continue this steady streak of quality: Cotillard slips effortlessly into a character that’s fighting enemies both internal and external, and she’s accompanied by the Dardennes’ naturalist visual style, which brings immediacy to her predicament. Needless to say, everyone should keep an eye out for this film.
