As Star Wars fans already know, the upcoming Star Wars: Episode VII doesn’t just mark the beginning of a new trilogy, but will also serve as the anchor for wave after wave of new Star Wars products, including a series of stand-alone films that will be released between the main parts of the trilogy. The obvious comparison for these spinoff films is what Marvel has done with The Avengers, feeding solo adventures into the main team films, except that Disney CFO Jay Rasulo has called the interstitial movies “origin stories,” and as far back as February of 2013, Entertainment Weekly reported that two of the films were already in pre-production, with one being about the young Han Solo and the other following the adventures of Boba Fett between the events of A New Hope, The Empire Strikes Back, and Return Of The Jedi.
Yesterday, Disney CEO Bob Iger talked about the spinoffs during a stockholders conference call, and while he didn’t confirm any of the rumors about their subjects, he did say that “at least three” were in the works, which may back up previous rumors that a Yoda solo story is also on the table. More importantly, Iger’s statement solidifies Disney’s announced plans to get a Star Wars movie of some kind into theaters every year for the foreseeable future. Never let it be said that this company doesn’t understand the power of the Force.
