For the staff at The Dissolve—and a growing contingent of movie lovers worldwide—the social-media site Letterboxd has become something of an obsession, doing for movies what Goodreads is doing for books. Users can keep track of all the films they see by logging, rating (on a five-star scale, just like The Dissolve), and/or reviewing them for their profile pages. Users can also follow other Letterboxd friends to see what they’re watching and what they think about it. The interface is beautiful and user-friendly, and connections with friends and fellow cinephiles are easily made through automated Facebook and Twitter searches.
Today, we’re excited to announce that Letterboxd has developed a widget for The Dissolve that will make it that much easier to share your ratings and opinions with fellow readers. Below the information box on every review page, you’ll find a Letterboxd widget for each film that will allow you to add your rating, look at a graph of all ratings site-wide, and see which of your friends have seen it, as well as options to add it to your Watchlist or write a review.
Once you’re signed up—or if you’re already on board—you can follow many of us on the site: Keith Phipps, Scott Tobias, Tasha Robinson, Noel Murray, Matt Singer, Nathan Rabin, Genevieve Koski, Mike D’Angelo, Sam Adams, Vadim Rizov. We’re always updating our diaries (embargo permitted) and checking in on our friends and readers, and we hope to make Letterboxd a fun and useful extension of the community of film enthusiasts that gather on The Dissolve.
