I am totally miserable Dissolvers! (Also: milk was a bad choice.) I just read the heartbreaking news on Empire that according to director Adam McKay, there will be no further Anchorman sequels.
Promoting the new super-sized R-rated version of Anchorman 2 that opens in theaters today, McKay told Empire that it was time to move on to other ventures:
“‘That’s the last sequel we’re gonna do,’ adds McKay, also seemingly torpedoing any plans for Step Brothers 2. ‘There’s nothing more fun to me than new characters and a new world. And now we’re releasing this alt version, we’re totally satisfied. No Anchorman 3.’”
When Empire joked about McKay and Will Ferrell maybe revisiting the idea of another Anchorman in a decade, the director was adamant: “I’m going to say definitely no. I’ll actually say it in this case!”
This is the worst news I’ve heard since that time Kench Allenby was tried for murder. What an absolute nightmare. Don’t get me wrong; new characters and new worlds from McKay and Will Ferrell sound great too (McKay’s currently working on an adaptation of Michael Lewis’ non-fiction book The Big Short, about the 2008 financial crisis). And I could probably live without another sequel to Anchorman (probably, I’m honestly not sure). But no possibility of a Step Brothers 2? Why don’t you just rip my heart out and then eat it in front of me, Adam McKay? Because that wouldn’t hurt any more than this.
