With a script, director Alan Taylor (Thor: The Dark World), a plan to combine both film and television series into one massive story, and July 1, 2015 release date set for the latest Terminator movie, it’s time for some casting. Deadline’s Mike Fleming Jr. says Jason Clarke—best known as Jessica Chastain’s torture-administering co-star in Zero Dark Thirty—is in early talks to play the rebooted John Connor.
Clarke is 44 years old, which would make him far and away the oldest man to play John Connor. The most famous Connor was 14-year-old Edward Furlong in Terminator 2: Judgment Day; Nick Stahl was 24 when he took over the role for Terminator 3: Rise Of The Machines. Christian Bale, who starred as the adult version of future humanity’s savior in 2009’s Terminator Salvation, was 35 at the time. This reboot is apparently titled Terminator: Genesis, suggesting Clarke will be the guy to send a new Kyle Reese back in time to protect his mother Sarah from more robot assassins.
Clarke is also in next summer’s Dawn Of The Planet Of The Apes, which will debut its first trailer on December 18. In the meantime, you can check out its new posters for the obviously delightful sight of angry-looking war-painted simians. In a related story: Have you seen this boy?
